Why You Really Should Give Up Blogging

Why negative thinking will keep you from blogging

We both know that you suck at writing. You will never write anything that is worthy of reading. There is absolutely no way that you will get any readers. Every single day that you log into your WordPress dashboard and look at your analytics you will see a flat line, a big fat 0.

Admit it right now!

That is what you say to yourself right? That is how you feel?

Hell, it is how I feel. Surely you feel it too.

Just today I was reading Create Or hate: Successful People Make Things and on page 30 he writes about the negative self talk that we all say to ourselves.

That is some messed up stuff.

If you had a friend that was considering starting a blog, you would never say what you just read above to that friend.

What would you say to that friend that wants to start a blog?

Here is what I would say to a friend:

I ain't gonna lie to you friend, blogging is hard. Blogging is so much work and it is lonely in the beginning. It is difficult but I know you, and I believe that you can do it. You have something to share with the world and it would be a shame if you didn't share it.

I will be your first reader.

You can do this.

I believe in you.

So why can't we say that to ourselves?

Fear is a terrible thing. It holds us all back. We don't want to look foolish but blogging is nothing but foolish. Every time that we take a leap it isn't within our zone of safety. That is why sticking with it is so challenging. That is why starting is embarrassing.

We could fail. As a matter of absolute fact, if we try to be great at something, hell even good at something, we will fail. I fail constantly and it sucks.

I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying. ~Michael Jordan

It is not trying that I can't live with.
