How To Set Thrive Themes: Post Excerpt Tutorial

When you are setting up a blog you may want your blog roll page to just show post excerpts. Thrive Themes make this process simple, you just gotta know where to click.

What is a post excerpt?

It is when you show a portion of your blog post instead of the entire post. Check out the image below.

To see this in action you can check out my blog page here: https://www.iteachblogging.com/blogging/

Bonus: Download a free checklist of the first plugins that I always install on a new WordPress Blog.

Why would you want to share a post excerpt instead of the entire blog post?

The primary reason that I am fan is because it shows the reader more options. If you display the full blog post on the page then they don't quickly and easily see multiple options.

Readers like options. I tend to read non-fiction and when I am looking at a new book, the first thing that I do is read the table of contents. It gives me insight as to what the book is really about. By providing blog post excerpts on your blog roll page, you are providing the reader with a good idea of what they can expect from your blog.

Final Note: If you want an image to show up in the excerpt, make sure that you set your featured image in the blog post. Check out this post for more info about the featured image: What you need to know about the WordPress featured image. In it you will learn how to determine what size your featured image should be.

So now that you know how to set your post excerpt, will you leave it as the full blog post or an excerpt? Which do you prefer and why?
